Kaiserstuhl and Tuniberg - perfect base for day trips in the region
The Kaiserstuhl-Tuniberg region lies directly on the Rhine and on the border with France. There are many interesting excursion destinations: historic towns such as Colmar and Strasbourg, wine villages along the Alsace Wine Route as well as numerous museums and leisure facilities. The German-French tourist route Grüne Strasse - Route Verte runs through Breisach and connects the Black Forest, Upper Rhine, Alsace and Vosges regions.
The Black Forest metropolis of Freiburg is between 20 and 30 kilometres away and can also be easily reached by the Breisgau S-Bahn. Via Freiburg you can reach - by car or with the Höllentalbahn - in 1 to 1.5 hours the Hochschwarzwald with many well-known places like Titisee, Hinterzarten, Feldberg and Schluchsee.
If you would like to visit several leisure facilities in the Black Forest and on the Upper Rhine, we recommend buying a Black Forest Card. Further information and the card itself are available from the Kaiserstuhl Nature Garden Tourist Office in Breisach on the market square, tel. 07667/940155, breisach-touristik@breisach.de and from the Endingen Tourist Information Office, Adelshof 20, tel. 07642/689990, touristinfo@endingen.de.
The Swiss border is about 60 kilometres away. The border town of Basel has an interesting old town around the cathedral and many unique museums and art collections, such as the Musée Tinguely and the Fondation Beyeler. Not far from Basel is the Roman city of Augusta Raurica, the largest open-air site in Switzerland, where over 20,000 people once lived.
