Cultural and historical gateway to the Kaiserstuhl region
Riegel am Kaiserstuhl
Art and history characterise the lively appearance of Riegel am Kaiserstuhl. Thousands of guests, especially cyclists and hikers, enjoy the hospitality in our beer gardens, hotels and holiday flats as well as at the camping site on the beautiful Müllersee every year.
The landmark of our community is the Michaelskapelle on the Michaelsberg. From there you have a wonderful panoramic view of the Black Forest and the Vosges Mountains.
Freiburg, Basel, Strasbourg and Europa-Park are in the immediate vicinity.
Numerous nationally significant archaeological finds bear witness to the 7000-year history of the village. On an archaeological circuit you can also visit the uncovered Mithras temple.
In the cultural sphere, the town has made a name for itself with the Messmer Foundation's art gallery, the private "Kumedi" theatre and the many galleries and artists' studios.
With its loess walls, Riegel also has something special to offer geologically, as here you can gain an insight into the past millions of years of the earth's history. You can gain these and many more impressions on the Riegel Michaelsberg nature trail.
Riegel is connected to the supra-regional road network via its own connection to the A5 federal motorway and the state road 113 to France. Two railway stations round off Riegel's excellent transport links to the Rhine Valley line of Deutsche Bahn and the Kaiserstuhlbahn of Südwestdeutsche Verkehrs AG.
The Riegel brewery no longer exists, but the Riegel beer brand continues to enjoy great popularity. The area of the Riegel brewery was converted and renovated into the "Riegel Lofts". The popular Römerbräu is brewed there by amateur brewers. Numerous restaurants and overnight accommodation contribute to the well-being of visitors to our community.
